Personal trainers annoy me

I mean no offense to any of you out there. I know my following statement will be a generalization. But personal trainers, you mostly annoy me, irritate me, make me frustrated. Not that I've never met one I like. My cousin, I like her. Her advice is sound. It's not crazy. I know every field has those people who will annoy me. I'm sure if I look hard enough. I know there are nurses that make me cringe just as much as these personal trainers. But, Ironically, I've met more personal trainers who annoy than not.

Here's why the most recent one annoys me. Yes, I wear a heart rate monitor when I jog. Yes, it seems I may burn more calories than the average person of my weight and speed. Yes, I trust the heart rate monitor over any chart/graph/math equation you can come up with. Why? Because this monitor is actually personalized for my body. It uses not only my age, length of activity, and weight but also my heart rate. And, yes, by the way, my heart rate while jogging is between 170-180. A bit high, maybe. But I don't feel uncomfortable. I feel awesome!

So when my monitor says I burned xxxx number of calories on an 1 hr 12 min jog vs your xxx number of calories (almost 500 cal less). I will take mine. Why? Because I'm calculating in my heart rate and your chart, it says it may greatly vary between individuals depending on their body and situation. So, yeah. I'll take that 1230 calories burned and love it!

Thanks for that vent. :)

As I've shared, I've been training for a 10K. Well, the summer kind-of took on a life of it's own and now it's fall. The 10K I plan to run is a Flapjack run. You do the run, you eat pancakes. Its pretty awesome. I've never run a 10K before in my life. I've done the 5K's but no 10K. I created a training schedule about 4 weeks ago. If I'd stuck to it, I'd be at basically 6 miles this weekend. Now, I've gotten sick, had a 5K to run and went out of town. This took away 3 weekends of my "long" run days. Keep in mind I do work full time so during the week I pretty much only run during lunch.

My delima is that I only have two more weekends and then the next weekend is the run. It's been crazy hot here so my last run was shorter than I wanted at 4.5 miles. The furthest I ran almost 4 weeks ago was 5.5 miles. Not hit the 6 mile mark. So, The next two weekends I'm pushing through 6 miles in the goal that I won't die when I actually run the full 6 miles. Do I push through the 6 or do I just do 5.5 this weekend and 6 next weekend with the full 10K the following? Any thoughts?

Weekend Update

I must admit, this has been a really good weekend. I made a 4 day out of it. Thursday my husband and I went to the fair just the two of us. We walked a lot (of course) and ate a lot (obviously). I finally lost some of the weight I gained over the last two weeks. Weird....I'm guessing I managed to walk more than I ate. We had a good time walking around and planning out what we we're going to do when we took the kids.

Friday I spent the morning folding and putting away clothes. It's pretty dumb how bad this gets sometimes. I really need a couple of days to sort through all the clothes the kids have and pull out the ones that are too small. Then we met with an insurance agent, we're switching from our current carrier. Originally we'd tried to just update our life insurance plan with our current carrier but that was an unnecessary pain. So we're just leaving them all together. The afternoon I ran out to see my mom but she was sleeping so hard I couldn't get her to wake up. It was kind-of a wasted trip and it takes me an hour to get there. I did get to meet the new administrator though. So that was good.

Saturday was the big race. The race that started it all for me. I was a bit nervous returning where it all started one year ago. It was going to be the exact same route, I don't think they ever change it. It would be actual proof that all this crazy jogging was paying off. Last year I thought I was going to die. It was only the 3rd time I'd done 3 miles and the first time I'd done the full 3.1. I did not finish it feeling very good or positive. I finished at 45:52. This year I finished at 42:03. So very pleased with my progress! The first mile was within the 12 minute time, the second was completed in 25:50 and then obviously the finished time at 42:03. The hills are what were killing me. I'd forgotten they had so many. And, I forgot my inhaler. It was the first time I've jogged outside without using it first. This gave me further confidence to believe my asthma may be improving. I'm hoping so. It also gives me home that my time MAY have been better if I'd had that. Overall a Saturday was a great day!

Today, we went back to the fair with the kids. They had fun but it was a pretty long day. We got there a few hours before lunch and did a few fun kiddo things. Then we grabbed a quick bite. It was challenging because we kept splitting up so my daughter could get some of the typical fair foods that Max couldn't eat. That was kind-of a pain, but it was good that she got a bit spoiled.

I'll have to do a picture post later when I've got some more time. Right now I've gotta get my CEU thinging done so I can renew my license and clean the house since Tempie's Kindergarten teacher is coming over tomorrow night for, well, I'm certain what. I'm guessing it's like what the preschool teacher did, meet and greet and an over view as to what to expect during the year.

Jogging Update

So it's been a while since I've written about my jogging journey. I got some new shoes and once I put them on and jogged in them yesterday, I'm pretty certain I should've bought some a few months ago. I now know for next time. I will put buying new running shoes on my spring to do list. These shoes are awesome! I'm truly loving them. My last shoes were great too. They were purple Filas. These are Nikes. The first one's I've owned as an adult. I got a pretty good deal on them since we were driving by the Nike store at the outlet mall. We drive by the outlet mall every time we visit his family, but hardly ever stop. I need to change that.

Anyways, getting back on task. The shoes are awesome. I jogged yesterday for the first time in a week due to just plain business. It felt great! First time in new shoes and I felt like I was flying. Got my best time (by a minute of my average) on my 1.5 mile. I was pretty stoked. I just may become a Nike fan if this continues! Oh and that best time (which is slow, I know...) was 12:56 a minute for a total time of 18:54.

With such a great time the day before, I decided I should give it a try again yesterday. I could tell I worked my legs yesterday because they whined at me a bit. But overall the run felt great! My time was just a bit longer, a little over 19 minutes and 13 minutes per minute. So, I'm now hoping I can keep up the pace for my 5K tomorrow. I'm not jogging today and I didn't jog yesterday in hopes of my legs being well rested.

Anyways, I'll check in after my 5K tomorrow.

It's a No Go....

Friday finally, someone informed me of the NP program. And, It's a no go. It was weird because they changed the program to a pilot and choose "a limited few" to participate. Honestly, with as long as it took for them to repsond, I'm somewhat glad I didn't get chosen as it's seems pretty unorganized. But, the whole changing the program to pilot and picking so few is annoying since they made in the beginning they made it sound like they were choosing several people. BOo! Oh, well. I'm hoping they'll do another round in Jan and it will be way more organized then.

So, my 10K training started yesterday. It felt good. I jogged a very slow 4 miles. I'm crazy slow. And I'm not exaggerating. But, I'm doing it and that's what counts, right? My goal for the 10K is I want to complete it at a jogging (al biet slow) pace. I want to be completed at or less than 1 hr and 30 mins. That's a pace of about 15 min/mile. Ultimately I'd like to be much closer to a 13 min/mile. I tend to fall into a comfortable pace and stay there, so I'm sure I'll be closer to the 15 min/mile pace.

I wen tot check on my garden this morning. I'm super excited as I have the start of 2 tomatoes and several cucumbers. We're gonna have a lot of cucumbers I believe. My husband and I have decided I'll need to learn how to pickle them. I'm looking forward to that as long as I don't have to buy a pressure cooker. That was the only way my grandmother pickled so it's the one way I've seen. Oh, and we have some accidental zuchini growing. We may or may (not sure) have carrots as well sprouted.

Schedules

I've put together a couple of schedules, one is a simplified cleaning schedule and the other is a running schedule. I'm in desperate need to start focusing on my 10k training now. The run is in September and the furthest I've jogged is 4 miles. I've gotta get something in writing in order to get it done.

Here are the two schedules. Any thoughts? Have you done a schedule.

On a health kick...

So disappointed. I've not heard anything on the Nurse Practitioner program yet. Ugh! Oh, well. I'm gonna assume I didn't get it and try to not think about it today. I'm sure they picked people with more time with the company.

I've been on this healthy kick for almost a year and a half. I first started with watching my diet and exercising. I'm now jogging, I try to jog 3 times a week during lunch, more when time allows. I have a goal of finishing a 10 K this fall. Most recently I started having a smoothie in the morning for breakfast. I use to do a Diet Coke and Coffee. I've now stopped buying Diet Coke/Soda all together (I use to drink like 2-4 a day!) to keep in my house. I will have one on occasion if we go out to eat or when I'm done shopping. But I'm really trying hard to order ice tea or lemonade when I'm out to eat.

My morning smoothie consists of: strawberries, 1 banana, Hand-full of fresh spinach, a couple of scoops of yogurt, and protein powder. Its pretty yummy. What I've found is that it gives me pretty good energy and appetite control. I don't find myself snacking nearly as much in the morning. It's even taken away some of my cravings for unhealthy stuff like sweets.

Anyways, I really don't have much to say....just a bit bummed. Oh well, I will go jog during lunch and hopefully that will lift my mood. Enough whining now.

Waiting and still waiting....

I hate waiting. I suck at it. Oh well. Friday they made the decision at work who would be getting the 100% paid nurse practitioner thing. Well, they didn't tell anyone because they decided too late in the day. Today they're suppose to be making the phone calls out. So, I'm stuck waiting right now. I hate waiting, did I mention that yet?

The good news though is that I'm one of the newest beta testers for Final Fantasy XIV (14). So, super stoked about that. I can only play during the weekend. So I've got a break until Thursday at 2 AM before I can play again. My husband also got picked, but when he downloaded it to his PS3, it broke. So, now we have to share screen time. He's planning to send it to get it fixed, so at least we'll each have our own when the game actually comes out. We like to play together in a party and obviously can't do that now.

So, I'm pretty much just waiting and trying to concentrate on work. I hope they call this morning.

Fitness Update

So, its been a while since I've posted much about my fitness on here. And there reason is quite simple because my fitness has been, well sporadic at best. Today I did my measurements for the first time in 2.5 months. They were surprisingly improved. I need to get better about exercising to keep them though. My weight is down, but I'm pretty sure that's because I'm sick, although I do hope I can keep it off.

So here's my numbers for right now, following them are the last measurements 2.5 months ago. Weight 192.6 (lowest I've been In a long time! 200.8) Hips 48(49.25) Waist 40(42.5) Left thigh 28.25(28.5) Right thigh 27.5(28.25) Left Arm 14(13.5) Right Arm 13.5(14).

The arms are hard to measure because I'm doing the measurements myself. So I have no idea how accurate those are. I'm thinking about no longer measuring them for that reason. However, everything else looks really good. 8.2 lb weight loss (my pre-sickness weight was 194.2 so even that is 6.6 lbs less!). Overall inches lost (not including my arms) is about 5 inches. So I think that's good. So I feel like I somehow made progress.

I'm slowly on the mend and the weather is finally getting nice here. I'm planning on starting my full training next week. At the gym last week I made a full 5K on the treadmill but felt like I was dying. I'm planning on having my lunch time runs to be 2 miles this summer instead of the 1.5. I've already got that mapped out on map my run.

Anyways, I gotta run and get the kids ready for bed. They've been playing outside and "helping" with our garden so they're filthy!
